Background: Humans and Myrtans each evolved on different continents. While Myrtans evolved into a hunter-gatherer culture, and eventually into a localized hunter-gatherer culture, Humans evolved into an agricultural one. The first modern city was Corinth, which had a Commisioner and a council of representatives who had little to no power. However, the Humans were not united until nearly 70 years later, when Marcus Lebrinke waged a horrific war that brought together all the cities. More than half of the Human population was killed in this war, and acres of farm land were razed. Marcus seized control and made his capital Corinth, as it was in the center of all the other cities. He ruled with an iron fist, and often abused his power, causing revolts. In a revolt 6 years later, Marcus was killed and there was a struggle for power, in which Marcus' son Maraine seized power. Although often accused of instigating the revolts, nothing could be proven against Maraine, and he had full control. Maraine was the opposite of Marcus. He was lax, and let his council rule for him. He was assassinated 14 years later by an archer, who shot through the glass of his window to strike Maraine in the heart. This caused a civil war, and the cities were seperated again. The assassin was never found, in the records of the council. 54 years later, gunpowder was invented, and using the secret of guns, a man named Lores Amun reunited the Human cities, and a golden age began. Huge leaps in science, math, and the fine arts occurred, bringing the Human culture to it's peak. Lores safeguarded his form of government (one leader and 18 council members with the same power combined as the leader) so that it would last forever. It has lasted until now; however, the golden age did not come with it. And here's a different perspective: Myrtans and Humans are at war. They've been at war for almost 400 years, and the war is just coming to a crucial point. Human scientists have been trying to decode the Myrtan language (which was the whole cause of the war, neither side could understand the other) and are now coming very close to actually getting it. Myrtans and Humans originated on different continents, but when a land bridge formed 400 years ago, war occured. Myrtan culture is tribal, and they live in 8 major isolated tribes. Each tribe has a territory to defend, and each is led by a tribal council of elders. Myrtans are united, and are led by a Council of Elders, which comprises of 1 elder from each tribe. Every few years, a new elder is cycled in from the tribal councils. Myrtans, unlike cats, do not reproduce in litters, and therefore have a population much smaller than human's, due to their warlike tendencies. However, with all the tribes united, they still have many, many Myrtans. Myrtans usually fight one on one, with an interesting honor code: they will only fight one on one unless the opponent attacks another Myrtan while fighting one, or if there are multiple opponent's against one Myrtan. Humans are semi-sophisticated: guns and computers exist, but they are for the rich, not for the common people. Swords are commonly used, as well as crossbows and spears. There is very little law enforcement, but many private companies hire their own 'law enforcement' in the form of bouncers, bruisers, thugs, and other less than scrupulous characters. However, because of the state of war, there are very few serious crimes, and people live a generally happy life. Past Sagas: End of the Human/Myrtan
